Using Free Dating Sites

Many people gravitate toward free dating sites for obvious reasons. But you should consider the pros and cons of using a free dating site before deciding to use it. Following are some of the negative sides of the free dating sites:

Lack of Sophisticated Features

The most obvious difference between free and paid dating sites is their level of sophistication. Free dating sites tend to give users very little information about their prospective matches. What you get at free sites is pretty bare bones. Advanced features, such as audio files, video profile, access through mobile phone, and compatibility system are always lacking.

Online Advertisements

Most free dating websites earn revenue by running advertisements on their sites. The consequence of running lots of advertisements isn’t just limited to the site’s diminished value. Some forms of ads, like pop-up boxes can be very annoying too. Most advertisers install little data files called cookies on your computer to track your online behavior. If your browser is set to block them, the free dating site may not function at all. The free dating sites may sell your private information, such as email address and phone number, to advertisers for profit, and you’ll be receiving masses of unsolicited offers from the advertisers.

Lack of Supervision

Free dating sites don't have personals on payroll to protect their legitimate members from scams and harassments. Large commercial sites have full time operators who keep a list of scammers and other people not complying with the code of conduct, and they will evict this crowd of scammers through solid supervision. Large pay sites almost always have internet dating police force that is constantly enforcing their code of conduct through the network.

No Barriers to Entry

The seriousness of many users on a free dating site is questionable as there is no barrier to entry to the site. Almost anyone can have a membership account on a free dating site. But people who are more serious about meeting the like-minded person don’t want to be distracted by people who are not equally serious about dating. Paid membership is a solid barrier to entry. Someone who has purchased a membership has at least shown some commitment and seriousness about dating.
