Online Dating Safety Tips

These are some basic safety tips to ensure your safety and security when you’re using an online dating website:

* Save all emails and chat logs when you communicate with people on a dating site. This will serve two purposes:
1) if you’re being harassed by someone, you can report that person to the moderators, and you’ll have evidence to prove it.
2) if you end up falling in love with someone, this will bring back the sweet memories of the early days when you two just met.

* Beware of anyone who is not providing any information about himself or herself, but instead asking you a lot of personal questions. Most likely that person has something to hide.

* Beware of anyone who simply disappears for long periods without explanation and gives you inconsistent answers to your question.

* Be careful when anyone asks for a face to face meeting straight away. Take some time to get to know the person very well before you decide to meet off-site.

* It is okay to ask someone out on a date early on. But forcing or pressuring anyone into speeding up the dating process is not right. Always avoid the person when you’re being coerced this way. If the person is disrespectful in online communication, he/she will be disrespectful of you in real life.

* Always go with your instincts. If you’re getting a bad vibe about someone you’re communicating on a dating website, there is probably a good reason for it. Try to find as much information as you can about the person. You should be extra careful if you have a history of going out with abusive people.

* Never share your login information of the dating site you use with someone else. If you use public computers to monitor your account, always make sure to log out properly before leaving the place. Simply closing the browser doesn’t end the login session for many websites as these sites store cookies with session variables on the computer you’re using. You need to click on the "logout" button to end your login session before you close the browser. It is even better if you delete the cookies at the end of your session.

* Beware of people who ask for money. These people are definitely scammers. You should never send money to anyone you’ve met on a dating website or anywhere online no matter how heartbreaking and compelling their stories are.
